How should the show depict Gotham City?

As to which city would have the look and feel of Gotham in the Arrowverse, I don't know, but as far as locations in Vancouver, the Gastown district could be a good spot to diversify Gotham from the other shows. Here are a few pictures:

One thing I loved about Tim Burton's Bat-films was that Gotham had personality; it felt like it was a character in its own right. If I have a complaint about the Nolan films, it was that his Gotham didn't have that vibe or that presence; it just felt like another random big city. I can't speak to how the Arrowverse's cities are (aside from some of Supergirl season 1, I'm new to this verse), but I at least want a Gotham that has personality.

Spot on! Gotham was a beautiful Art Deco creation that gave it personality and a futuristic and 1930’s feel respectively. We suggested the Gastown as a possible choice but a true Art Deco feel would be flawless!

Well Gotham was always rumored to be based on New York and then the feel gonna transplanted to Chicago. I would assume because of all the Mob mentality attached to the various “gangs” of the Super Villains and the implication that the city was, in itself, corrupt, hence the need for the Batman. Then there is the whole assumption, based on it’s approximate location to Metropolis, and the hints dropped in the Teen Titans, of which Kane’s cousin, Bette was once a part of as Firebird, implies that it may be a city somewhere in the New Jersey area.

But as far as city feel, since Chicago is already taken (albeit that doesn’t mean they can’t reuse bits cause Chicago is a big city), Pittsburgh would have a similar style, I feel, and has the bonus of already having been utilized in the films as a filming location. Old industrial being changed over into high form technology with the three rivers framing the city. Another location that might work is Detroit. Also a city that is undergoing a transformation in changing out it’s old industry into a new technological center. Additionally, next to a Great Lake and not far from the Canadian border. Both city’s would buy into the aesthetic of the architecture and are “recovering” and reformatting their infrastructure which is what Kane mentioned was her goal to Kara in the crossover.
