Often, Gotham City is depicted as a truly unique place, one with a style unlike anywhere else. But, the Arrowverse tends to choose real-life cities for the establishing shots of their shows (Boston for Star City, Cincinnati, I think, for Central City, LA for National City), and then of course they actually film in Vancouver, a city whose style, so far as I can tell (and I've never been there), stems more from the ocean and mountains that surround it than it does from the city architecture itself. So my question is, how would folks like to see Gotham City depicted, at least in the establishing shots between scenes?
- Pick some real city, and if so which one?
- Buy the transitions from Fox's Gotham, since they won't need them after this year?
- Create some original city reminiscent of Anton Furst's work on Batman (1989)?
- Create some original city that looks like a regular modern city, only taller?
- Something else?
Personally, I'd lean towards (2) or (3), but I'll happily admit that I fell in love with Burton's & Furst's vision of a city where a 6-foot bat flying among the skyscrapers killing bad guys seemed like a reasonable possibility, and I think
Gotham's style owes a lot to that.
