Well this news is certainly a big shocker for everyone! Batwoman has been an incredible show and each episode left us on the edge of our seats. Ruby Rose gave us a version of Batwoma aka Kate Kane that we instantly fell in love with. So today, it's a bit of a shock to hear via Deadline.com that just after the season finale for the first season, Ruby has announced that she won't be returning to the show for a second season. This doesn't mean that the show is cancelled but The CW has begun the process to recast the role. In a statement Ruby gave about the descion, she said:
I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created. Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success – I am truly grateful.
Warner Brothers made this statement after Rose's departure:
Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best. The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.
This is a lot to process today. No one has made any statement to the reason of the departure but we hope you'll join us in wishing Ruby the best. Share your thoughts with us in the comments below and in the forum! Don't forget to follow us on Twitter.

"Those who know, know... "
Not that we have cleared that up.... lol!
Now her onscreen boss on Black Lightning is ASA Odell who, we learned this season, actually hails from Gotham City. If he ever returns to Gotham, he may do a double take if they cross paths.
I will be glad when the suspense is over and announcement is made.
I kinda think they should just roll with it... but I see a big opportunity if either Jacob or Alice manages to take down Batwoman in the season 2 premiere.
1. Jacob... this could be a game changer. He hates vigilantes because he blames Batman for the death of his wife and loss of his daughter. That anger has festered and he has projected it onto Batwoman... not knowing its actually Kate. If he takes down Batwoman only to discover its Kate under the mask, his world will get shaken to its core and that is ENTERTAINMENT people.
2. Alice...She is hurt and vengeful and vulnerable following the death of Mouse at her hands. If she takes down Batwoman, the subsequent remorse could result in the emotional toll that brings about her transition to Red Alice.
Many have speculated why Alice needs kryptonite to kill Batwoman. Why not simply aim for the area of the head not protected by the cowl. What if she [or Jacob] did just that and Kate was not fast enough to use her batcape to shield her face? Bingo. Mary and Alice could potentially work together to reconstruct Kate's damaged face. That type injury could also affect Kate's speech.
Yeah, story telling opportunity exists.

I'd prefer to keep Ruby, but it is apparently for the best... I really do like @bratty_bat suggestion for a replacement:

According their source,Ruby didn't adjust well to leading a network T.V. Show nor the Vancouver shooting location which resulted in a not fun set.
So both sides felt it was better to part ways.
