Welcome back Batwoman fans! Here we are with the second to last episode of this season and things are really moving! For those that are following us on social media, you've likely seen the writers are really excited for tonight! They have promised us that we will be in a really different place after the hour long episode! With Kate being partially back, Ryan owning the Batsuit, and Jacob being transferred to Metropolis, there is a lot that could happen, not to mention finally seeing Batwing make his big debut! Here's what stood out to us:
- Kate/Circe Has Gone Missing: As Batwoman assaults the Sionis mansion, we learn that Roman has gone underground. No one can find Kate until it is revealed this is at the bar she owns. She's trashed and team Batwoman takes her home. Kate still isn't fully back. Alice is mourning Ocean when Mary seeks her out to help cure Kate. Mary can't bring herself to ask Alice for help and she leaves Alice to dead love. Luke takes Kate her old journals and challenges her to go for a ride on her motorcycle to remind her of herself. Kate takes the journals to Roman and Safiyah. She was just playing being Kate. They use the journals to be a user manual to the Batcave.
- Ryan Moves Out: Ryan feels like Kate is back, she needs to move out of the way for her. Sophie tells Ryan that Black Mask is hiring ex-crows at top dollar. Batwoman steals the computer of the Sionis finance advisor so she can track the money and expose Sionis. When Ryan retreats to her van to make room for Kate, the corrupted GCPD track her down and arrest her for stealing the laptop and plant drugs on her.
- Safiyah Reveals Herself: Alice returns Ocean's remains to the ... ocean. Safiyah arrives and reveals herself to Alice. Ryan and Roman come face to face knowing who each other are now. Roman wants Ryan on his team but she refuses. Luke and Mary discover Ryan was arrested. We cut to Fake Kate and Sophie explaining their feelings, or at least Sophie's feelings. Mary asks Kate to suit up again to help break Ryan out of jail when Cicse reveals herself and knocks out team Batwoman in the cave.
- Framed Ryan: Ryan is visited by her defense lawyer, Ryan explains that there is no way she is getting out of jail alive. She reveals to her defense lawyer that she is Batwoman. When the lawyer stands up for her, the cops turn on her to kill her but Ryan and the lawyer are spared with Ryan's skill. The lawyer gives Ryan her key card to get out. Alice attacks Safiyah but is quickly defeated. Safiyah tells Alice it's time to seek shelter, Gotham is about to go under. Mary, Luke and Sophie are trapped in the Batcave elevator. Circe didn't kill them making them wonder how much of Kate is still left. Circe is looking for something in the Batcave and we see a treasure trove of Batman villain items. Bane's mask, Joker's Acid Squirter, and it looks like Circe stops on something Poison Ivy used.
- Ryan to the Rescue: Ryan got herself out of jail with the help of her lawyer and she heads to the Batcave and finds her team trapped. Circe comes into the cave to attack and Ryan has to hide. Safiyah reveals that the vine Circe took of Poison Ivy's will combine with her desert rose and regrow her island. She then reveals that she used Circe to get it meaning that Alice didn't get her sister back. Ryan and Circe fight in the cave Batwoman vs Batwoman.
In the final moments, Sophie, Luke and Mary get out and stop the fight but they can't shoot Circe believing that Kate can still be saved. Circe escapes. Safiyah breaks down Alice but it was a ploy to get close and kill her with the Desert Rose knife meaning she can bring her back. Circe gutted the Batcave and took everything, Batwoman doesn't even have her suit.

... a few modern updates and perhaps a good fumigation in case creepy crawlers have set up residence under those cobwebs.
I don't think she will be the villain of season 3 at all. Only for one more episode....hopefully.
Kate wasn't there or herself long enough.
Also, Black Mask must be dealt with very quickly. After all, he knows WAY too much now....
Quoting CatPat: If Safiyah does know the passphrase, that could be the only thing that saves her life. Then again, Alice may still end up killing her regardless - she does have a bit of an impulse issue. I don't know that I want Circe-Kate as the main villain for ALL of S3 - I think that would be a bit much. Maybe til mid-season, as long as we get glimpses of Kate thruout.
Quoting CatPat: In Kate's defense, she was more of a bike-person, and she was puttering around on her own bike until Luke gave her the batbike, so she had no need to pull out the batmobile. On the other hand, well, the show is notorious for plot holes, and people suddenly knowing things without any research/revelations (like, how did Mary know to find Alice in an abandoned subway car?!?), so... there ya go!
I feel someone knows the password or phrase to unlock Kate's mind. If not Roman, maybe Safiyah. She could use some leverage when Alice awakens her... Perhaps Enigma told her to get back in her good graces after having to undo the Alice and Ocean mind wipes. I can see leaving Kate as Circe but only for a limited time. Fans want/need Kate back at some point.
And a great stage for the grande finale next Sunday...
Love all the many easter eggs in the Batcave and to have a fight scene inside the Batcave was freaking great.
Will post my complete review tomorrow in the forum.
@comicfan:
I hope you will get back at 100% soon!
1. Agreed! Not a perfume fan.
2. I gave up on the voice modulator. Worst used tool in the bat arsenal where Ryan is concerned.
3. I honestly feared they would take the "Karen" route with her. I was relieved they didn't.
Duh, I totally didn't make the Menace connection. Totally spaced on that... Yeah, definitely.
Really BIG DUH!
Probably Menace, since that's who he became in the comics. Even the hardware in the picture kinda looks like the Venom device Circe recovered from the batcave:
