Initiate Self-Distruct Synopsis

Ok here we go! Ever since we heard the news that we aren't done with Kate Kane's journey yet, we've been wanting and waiting for news on how and why she'll return. We know that Wallis Day has been cast to take over the part from Ruby Rose, and we know that she is in a locked basement being held by Black Mask and potentially reprogrammed by Enigma. Today, in the synopsis for the May 2nd episode of Batwoman, we are getting our first mention of Kate and potentially how and why she'll return. In addition, Ryan's true identity of being Batwoman is at risk and she could be exposed which further rifts the Bat-Fam team! Read the full synopsis below:

WE ALL WEAR MASKS – Ryan (Javicia Leslie) is faced with a difficult decision that could expose her as Batwoman, creating a rift in the Bat Team.  Meanwhile, Black Mask's (guest star Peter Outerbridge) plans for Kate Kane (Wallis Day) begin to unfold.  Alice (Rachel Skarsten) is reunited with someone from her past, and Sophie (Meagan Tandy) must decide where her loyalty lies.  Also starring Dougray Scott, Nicole Kang and Camrus Johnson. Glen Winter directed the episode with a story by Zack Siddiqui and teleplay by Jerry Shandy (#212). Original airdate 5/2/21.

I was thinking what if Enigma wiped Kate's memory and fed her some of Beth's memories in her reprogramming. A lot of possibilities that may be explored. This is the part of the story that interests me.
Ooo! I like that idea! It did occur to me that Enigma is in the unique position of knowing that Alice and Kate are sisters. I have to wonder if in ep #211 "Arrive Alive", that was the reason Enigma was so reluctant to remove Kate from Alice's memory - cuz she knows Kate's still alive!

the "altered" Kate Kane could potentially be more of a threat than a hero when she initially resurfaces. Possibly even teaming up with Alice
Oh, yeah! I definitely see that as happening - Kate as Black Mask's new enforcer to keep his snakebite sites safe from Batwoman. Or the new GCPD Commissioner, controlled by Black Mask. I think it would be pretty cool if the Kane sisters teamed up to wreak havok on Gotham for a few episodes. Alice would finally have what she's wished for!

I had the thought - wouldn't it be interesting if snakebite happened to be a "cure" for Enigma's brainwashing drug?!?

That would be a kick in the pants and actually makes a lot of sense for Snakebite to wind up being Black Mask's undoing of sorts.

I am also wondering when Safiyah and Ocean will reenter the picture.

Hopefully, this means we get some good insight on Kate. If they let her, Wallis can do a lot in the role.
I figured if they cast Wallis to be Kate, then she wasn't destined to be the next Oracle (i.e. an excuse the writers could have used for why she could not reclaim the cowl cuz she'd been crippled from the crash). I'm guessing that ultimately, she'll adopt a new super hero persona and fight along side Batwoman 2.0. What characters has DC green-lighted recently for CW to use, I wonder?

Its so hard to say with WB on the allowed character roster. I think it is safe to assume that with her head injury and the drugs Black Mask and Enigma have at their disposal, the "altered" Kate Kane could potentially be more of a threat than a hero when she initially resurfaces. Possibly even teaming up with Alice, as Enigma will apparently get to play head games with both of the Kane sisters. This could create a very dangerous and scary-fun duo. I could see that playing out through the end of this season. Then perhaps, have Kate in therapy struggling with PTSD for much of next season. This could be a way to keep both Kate in the picture and Ryan in the batsuit. Another scenario, Jacob could bring in Kate as his #2 at the Crows and/or perhaps turn it over to her down the road, eliminating the need for an alter ego. I see many possibilities, unfortunately none likely to put Kate back in the batsuit where she ultimately belongs. But, it could be a fun ride.

If Ryan was concerned about protecting her identity she would make sure her voice modulator was on.
I've heard the modulator more than once, but not consistently. When she grabbed the mic from the newswoman, it was on. But there was a scene where she was talking to Sophie, where it wasn't. I don't know if the effects team is getting sloppy, or Javicia just has the kind of voice that's hard to tell when it's modulated or not.

I will be watching with my Kate Kane glasses on.
 As will I!

That is actually a quite weird topic in season 2. I only once really heard that this thing is on.
Don't know if it is on the whole time as she speaks and they "just" don't show it and/or alter her voice?
Yeah, it's a good further tool to protect someone's identity....but in the end, she is masked very well as female heroes often only get these small eye masks (#Arrow, Black Lightning etc.)...Batwoman's face is really well concealed. And well, Kara is "masked" by some hairpins and glasses.....so I'm quite happy with how they do in this show.
It would be nice if you would address the voice modulator in the show.

They (any show, not just this one) do need consistency, as fans notice it immediately and find it sloppy. In Supergirl's and Superman's case they have never used voice modulation, you just take it on faith that their glasses "somehow" conceal their identities. Comic Book Canon. Kara doesn't even change her hair color on TV, as she often did in the comics. But, it you are using tech and built in a voice modulator as part of the aesthetic, it definitely should be used or at least explained away.

Always enjoy some secret identity struggles! Guess Sophie is very close by then of uncovering the mystery of who is behind the cowl.
And of course, I'm wanna know more about Black Mask's plan with Kate! Looks like we find out more in that episode.

And speaking of Kate Kane....these (behind the scenes) pictures have surfaced on Rachel Skarsten's Insta:

The Kane family reunited! ;-)

:-) :-) :-)

P.S.: Somehow Jacob looks weird smiling like that  ...so unusual.
