Here we are again Batwoman fans! While it's been more than a year, Kate's Batwoman made the Batsuit her own in the third episode and that is going to be true for our new Batwoman Ryan Wilder as well! Before we dive into Ryan's new debut as Batwoman in her altered costume and Batmobile, pay close attention to the countdown clock as there won't be a new episode next week. Why you ask, well it's "The Big Game" aka the NFL's final game which is copyrighted and we won't say. Nonetheless, let's dive into Bat Girl Magic! Here's what stood out to us:
- Victor Zsasz: The master assassin, Victor Zsasz makes his debut. He is a hired assassin that shows up to kill an ex-cheating husband. In the opening minutes of the show, we see just how effective he is at his job. He quickly dispatches with the husband and new wife and poses them in their bed.
- Snake Bite: A new drug is sweeping the streets of Gotham. Ryan starts her patrol and is able to stop a drug deal but she is almost late to her parole meeting. She darts off to make it just in time. Ryan spins a lie and tells her that she is working at "The Holdout" Kate's old bar which Mary is now running. The cover job works perfectly because it explains why Mary and Ryan will spend so much time together and gets the parole officer off Ryan's back.
- Safiyah: Alice and Sophie wake up on Safiyah's island. Alice is willing to die to get an audience with Safiyah. She took away Alice's perfect revenge plan and Alice is ready to do anything to know why. Meanwhile, we learn that Victor Zsasz was hired to take out someone at Hamilton Dynamics. Mary ended up selling her shares in the company when her mom died making her a multi-billionaire! This also gives Ryan the civilian cover she needs to be Batwoman at night. Alice and Safiyah have an audience. We learn that similar to Oliver Queen, Alice spent years under Safiyah's tutelage. Shockingly we discover that Safiyah has been set up and didn't actually take Kate's plane down. Alice and Safiyah have a common enemy.
- Batwoman vs Zsasz: Batwoman makes her first pass at Victor but he pulls a rocket on her and she is forced to retreat. Ryan, using her criminal connections and some of Mary's money, is able to pretend to hire Victor to discover who hires him. Ryan wants him to kill Alice but he says that just because his job wasn't finished doesn't mean he's done. He doesn't take the job but Ryan is able get a device close enough to hack Victor's phone. They discover that Safiyah hired Victor. Back on Safiyah's island we see that Safiyah is doing a very good job of pointing the blame elsewhere and we have no reason to not believe her.
- Luke and Mary: At the Batcave, Mary and Luke have it out. Mary has started to see that Ryan is the future. She has let Kate go and believes that Kate is gone. Luke is still holding on to Kate and isn't giving Ryan the time of day. He is reluctant to change the suit for Ryan because it means that he has to let go of Kate too. A patient at Mary's clinic shows that her stage 3 cancer is completely gone. This is because the Desert Rose is a cure all and Zsasz was hired to kill Mary for her use and administration of it to Gotham citizens. Zsasz is cleaning up the knowledge of the Desert Rose for Safiyah. Just as Zsasz is about to make his move, Ryan arrives and she's made her own additions to the suit making it her own!
- Alice and Safiyah: Batwoman is able to get the upper hand on Zsasz and beats Zsasz saving Mary. Alice and Safiyah share Alice's story from last season. The betrayal that Alice is feeling is too much and that is why she wants to hunt down Kate's supposed killer. She wants to make the person that took her revenge away pay for her loss. We find out however that Safiyah has Kate's necklace. If she was killed in a plane accident how does she have her necklace? We are left to assume that Kate is alive and Safiyah has her. Safiyah is holding her to use Alice to her advantage.
In the final wrap up moments, Ryan meets with her pleased parole officer. Alice and Sophie are dropped off where they were picked up. Alice tells Sophie that Safiyah has Kate and therefore Alice is able to manipulate Sophie all in the hopes that they can find Kate. Luke goes to give Ryan a break and gifts her new Bat-a-rangs. Mary holds a Jewish vigil to honor Kate but Luke continues to hold out hope Kate is alive. At Crows headquarters, we find out that Black Mask has been identified as the leader of the False Face society but they don't know his name. Sophie walks into Jacob's office to tell him she thinks Kate is alive!

This Zsasz is far more interesting than the recent big screen version. I think Kate will be recast if she returns and I do hope she returns.
