A Secret Kept From All the Rest Recap

Only two episodes left this season and we just wrapped up that penultimate episode! We've mentioned before how we absolutely love all the twists and turns each episode seems to now promise! Knowing that episode 20 wasn't planned to be the finale still has us on the edge of our seats as to what is going to happen. Speaking of what's happening, so much unfolded on the show tonight, here's what stood out to us:

  1. Hush: Tommy Elliot has taken on his new persona as HUSH pretty radically. He walks through a library to find someone killing every innocent person in his way. Meanwhile, Kate has tracked down Reagan and demands to find her journal. Reagan tells Kate everything and then discovers that Julia is hunting the journal as well. Hush has brought a professor back to Arkham to decode the journal but can't do it. Alice fries him with electric shock. Mouse is starting to think that Arkham is a perfect place for him and Alice, but Alice can't stop at her wanting to kill Batwoman. Alice decides they need Luke Fox to decode the journal.
  2. Julia: Kate is onto Julia. Julia is able to deflect the rightful suspicions of Kate as Sophie approaches. Hush has taken another hostage and The Crows are called into action. Kate, now questioning everyone's loyalty goes too far with Luke and Luke walks out. Mary is able to figure out that Hush is kidnapping people that are code breakers. This leads Kate and Mary to discover that Hush must have the journal or is working for someone who has it.
  3. Parker: Alice isn't keeping control on her henchmen. Hush and Mouse are in-fighting. Hush is sent to abduct the high school hacker Parker Torres that Alice once ran into to see if she can break the code. Parker tells her girlfriend to call Kate Kane before she is taken and Batwoman is on the case. She races to Parker's aide and saves her from Hush with Mary's help on the radio since Luke has walked out. Now that Alice is out of options, they plan to make a move on Luke.
  4. Luke: Luke heads to The Crows' headquarters to confront Julia on her snooping. Meanwhile, Batwoman brings Parker into the Batcave. Luke pushes Julia to reveal who she is working for. Luke gets a call from "Kate" telling him to stay there. When the real Kate calls, Julia and Luke have but a second to discover that it was actually Mouse. Hush brings them both in. Alice threatens to kill Julia if Luke can't break the code his dad wrote. Sophie heads to visit Kate asking if she's seen Julia. They both acknowledge that Julia and Sophie are dating and Kate gives her "blessing". Luke asks for space to work and he is able to crack the code realizing his dad used Luke's social security number to switch alphabets.
  5. The Journals: Mary feeling useless, starts to poke around the Batcave and finds a pair of glasses. Putting them on she realizes she can read all of Lucius' journals. Luke, having figured out the code reads the first part of the journal and resigns to die over that secret. Julia and Luke prepare for their fate. Meanwhile, Parker has found Luke and Batwoman heads to Arkham! The Crows also hear Batwoman is at Arkham and heads there as well. Batwoman breaks in but Hush has guns on Julia and Alice. Batwoman offers the glasses for Julia and Luke's life. Julia and Luke escape but Batwoman is seen by a guard and the alarm is tripped. Alice frees all the inmates in order to escape Arkham. Before Batwoman can go after Alice and get the journal back (which holds the secret to killing Batman) Batwoman needs to help save Arkham. Alice burns Mouse's mask and he has no choice but to leave.

In the final wrap up moments, Jacob and the Crows arrive to take back Arkham. Jacob blames Batwoman for this and decides he needs to bring her in. Luke waits to tell Kate she messed up and that his life isn't worth Batwoman's life but Kate hugs him before he can finish. She says that there is no Batwoman without Luke. Julia and Sophie share a moment interrupted by Kate. Kate confronts Julia about her motives. Julia reveals she's been chasing "The Rife" ever since and cuts a deal with the owner to stop chasing after Batwoman in exchange for the journal. Now knowing that the journal only had information on how to kill Batwoman, the deal is off. Jacob uses the Batsignal to call Batwoman. Jacob, not knowing Batwoman is Kate, declares war on Batwoman if he sees her out being a hero again. In the end we discover that the key to killing Batwoman/Batman ironically is KRYPTONITE!

Plus... picking up from Crisis, Kate may have the only piece of kryptonite in Gotham.

In Gotham, most assuredly. Curiously, the episode of Supergirl which aired the same night as this episode revealed a villain extracting quite a pile of Kryptonite from the DEO. Coincidence?!? Or foreshadowing a crossover?!? ;-)

Cariline Dries has an interview posted yesterday on comicbook.com and she hopes they can do the World's Finest crossover next season if possible. She purposely wanted to use kryptonite and further build on Kate/Kara relationship.

Kryptonite - it makes sense that the only thing that would penetrate the batsuit is something extraterrestrial and very hard to come by.

I was, quite literally, wondering just this past week when they were going to bring back Parker! :D

I had figured that Julia had either been blackmailed by, or was working under cover for Safiyah. Glad to know she's not a true traitor. And I am soooo curious as to what she meant when she said that Luke didn't know "everything" about Kate. What else went on in the British Isles while "training" together?!? Alas, I suspect we'll have to wait for season 2 to find out. :/

The "break-up" scene between Kate and Luke was intense. The "make-up" scene at the end was sweet. And Luke's first real brush with danger! I think all these scenes will help Luke become more self-assured and confident. I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't help but think of Morgan Freeman every time they mention Lucius Fox!

Yeah, there is quite a lot we don't know about Kate's past. I guess they will adress that in season 2.
About Kryptonite: In this point you are not correct as the railgun also could penetrate the batsuit.
I hope that they can present some explanations why they so desperately want this gun to kill Batwoman.....as there are plenty of methods you could kill her without having a such a weapon.

I will post my review of the episode in the forum tomorrow...now it's getting late here.

I enjoyed the episode. Glad to see Parker brought back again...now is there any chance Kate will let her update the computers in the Bat Cave? It's a same her technology isn't anywhere as up to date as the Crows.

Good episode! Enjoyable and well worth watching. Next week's unplanned finale should be quite dramatic. Looking forward to it. :-)

Holy kryptonite! Is there a Super connection? Love this show. Funny that Supergirl and Batwoman may share the same vulnerability. Now will Alice realize Kate has some kryptonite from Crisis?

Mary was so funny with her day drinking and jealousy over random teen Parker. How will Luke react to Kate bringing Parker to the cave?

Kate's love life is goint well... Julia and Sophie getting closer and discovering Reagan is Magpie's sister.
